Secret Locations

Matera

Matera is possibly the world's third-longest continuously-inhabited human settlement and therefore a UNESCO World Heritage site. Over 7,000 years ago, people carved cave dwellings into two canyons formed by an ancient river, which were subsequently occupied by Aragonese, Byzantines, Greeks and Romans, just to name a few. The dwellings, called sassi, are an astounding underground city reflecting the tenacity and ingenuity of the human spirit. This European Capital of Culture is so incredible that it has been used as a setting in many films, including Wonder Woman and The Passion of the Christ. Allow this reflection of humanity to set the tone for your marital bliss as you indulge in local cuisine and traditions.
